Always The Same

03/30/2025

A future tattered

A heart shattered

Thoughts scattered

Desolation, stagnation

A life that never truly mattered

One after one, they all take turns

Inflicting their countless burns

Time marches on, all the same

Always the same

It begins with deceit and lies

It ends with his defeated cries

To give up, ultimately wise

But loneliness, he will always despise

To keep trying, forever downed

Leaving him Sisyphus bound

Resistance? Persistence?

Unsure which, he seeks assistance

Answers for the persistent burn

Alas, not a soul possesses concern

So he finds solace in the smokey haze

To navigate his mind's endless maze

Alone, he must fight the flame

Always the same

As the sun falls, revealing starry skies

Lying alone, he closes his eyes

He uses fantasy to perceive

The future he will never receive

Imagining intensely, he can hear

The cheers of one he holds dear

Delighted to see him again,

She embraces him, easing his pain

They converse, laughing together

They talk about the weather

They kiss and reveal vulnerabilities

Within each other they find stability

Sharing stories of the past

The time moves so fast

His eyes open at the wails of his phone

A new day, one he must face alone

Always the same.
